The main airport in Venice is Venice Marco Polo International Airport (VCE), but also Treviso Airport can be an option.
Flying from the UK & US: There are direct flights from London as well as multiple US cities, including NYC.
Flying from Italy: Ci sono voli diretti da moltissime città italiane. Bari, Brindisi, Roma, etc.
Train: If you are visiting other parts of Italy before the wedding, train is often the easiest way. Venice's Santa Lucia station sits right in the historic center.
Note that cars can't enter the historic center, so if you are driving, you'll need to park at Piazzale Roma or on the nearby island of Tronchetto and continue into the city by foot, vaporetto, or water taxi.

Once you land at Marco Polo, you've got a few ways to get into Venice (or Mestre).
Taxi: If you're arriving at the airport, you can take a taxi to Piazzale Roma for a fixed fare of around €40. This is the fastest way to get to Venice, and cabs come fairly regularly. From Piazzale Roma, you'll need to walk (or hop on a vaporetto) to reach your hotel, since cars can't go any further into the city.
If you're staying in Mestre, cabs are also an option and typically run a bit cheaper since it's a shorter distance.
Note: Ubers are not as common and are more expensive, we would not recommend relying on rideshare.
Bus: Buses run regularly from the airport to Piazzale Roma. The ATVO express coach is the direct, comfortable option, around €10-12 one way, and gets you there in about 20-25 minutes with minimal stops. There's also the ACTV public bus (the "Aerobus", number 5), which runs a similar route for a similar price, but can take a bit longer. It will still get you into the city in around 30 minutes. Price is the same as the express coach. Busses also serve Mestre if that's where you're staying.
Water Ferry: The ALILAGUNA waterbus runs between the airport and Venice regularly for around €18-20. It's a slower ride than the bus — closer to an hour, sometimes more, since it makes several stops along the lagoon — but it's a beautiful way to arrive, gliding past the islands and dropping you closer to the heart of the city (with stops near San Marco, Rialto, and elsewhere depending on the line).
Water Taxi: This is a private boat that costs around €100+, will get you directly to the dock nearest your hotel quickly, and makes for a smooth, fun, and beautiful ride — a great option if you're splitting with a group or want a one-off unique experience.

Una volta atterrati all'aeroporto Marco Polo, avete diverse opzioni per raggiungere Venezia (o Mestre).
Taxi: Se arrivate in aeroporto, potete prendere un taxi fino a Piazzale Roma per una tariffa fissa di circa 40€. È il modo più veloce per raggiungere Venezia, e le auto passano con una certa regolarità. Da Piazzale Roma dovrete proseguire a piedi (o prendere un vaporetto) per arrivare al vostro hotel, dato che le auto non possono entrare oltre in città.
Se alloggiate a Mestre, il taxi è comunque un'opzione valida e in genere costa un po' meno, trattandosi di una distanza più breve.
Nota: Uber non è molto diffuso ed è più costoso, quindi non consigliamo di affidarvi ai servizi di ride-sharing.
Autobus: Gli autobus partono regolarmente dall'aeroporto verso Piazzale Roma. Il pullman espresso ATVO è l'opzione diretta e comoda, costa circa 10-12€ a tratta e impiega circa 20-25 minuti con poche fermate. C'è anche l'autobus pubblico ACTV (l'"Aerobus", linea 5), che percorre un tragitto simile a un prezzo simile, ma può richiedere un po' più tempo. Vi porterà comunque in città in circa 30 minuti. Il prezzo è lo stesso del pullman espresso. Gli autobus servono anche Mestre, se è lì che alloggiate.
Vaporetto (via acqua): Il battello ALILAGUNA collega regolarmente l'aeroporto a Venezia per circa 18-20€. È un tragitto più lento rispetto all'autobus — vicino a un'ora, a volte di più, poiché fa diverse fermate lungo la laguna — ma è un modo bellissimo di arrivare, scivolando accanto alle isole e sbarcandovi più vicino al cuore della città (con fermate vicino a San Marco, Rialto e altre, a seconda della linea).
Taxi acqueo: Si tratta di un'imbarcazione privata che costa circa 100€ o più, vi porterà rapidamente all'imbarcadero più vicino al vostro hotel, ed è un'esperienza piacevole, divertente e suggestiva — un'ottima opzione se dividete il costo con un gruppo o desiderate un'esperienza unica.
Venice is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world: so there are a lot of accommodations, but also a lot of demand during the high season (May–September). We recommend booking early to save as much as possible on accommodation fees.
WHERE TO BOOK
There are a lot of options. Here's some different ways to book:
Your typical booking systems like Booking.com, Hotel Tonight, and direct hotel websites for major brands (like Marriott, Hilton, etc.) — all work well in Venice.
Airbnb is also very popular in Venice and can be a good option for a more affordable, apartment-style stay in the city.
VRBO is another option if you're traveling as a group or family and want more space.

WHERE TO STAY
Venice Proper
This is the main part of the city — the historic center made up of Venice's 6 sestieri (districts). It's the most convenient option, putting you within walking distance (or a short vaporetto ride) of the wedding venue and all the sights, but it also comes with the highest price tags, especially during high season. We'll be getting married in San Marco district, but anywhere in Venice is fairly convenient.
Mestre
Think of Mestre as a suburb of Venice, with much lower accommodation costs. It's just one stop away from Venice by train, and there are direct buses into the city running constantly throughout the day. We wouldn't recommend spending much time in Mestre itself, but it's a very easy and budget-friendly base for spending your days (and nights) in Venice.
Lido
Lido is the beach island of Venice's metropolitan area. You can stay here and take a boat ferry into Venice for events. For late nights, you may need to take a pricier water taxi back to Lido, since the vaporetto runs less frequently after hours. It's less connected than Mestre — boat is the only way in and out — but it offers more affordable accommodation and a nicer, quieter setting than Mestre.

DOVE ALLOGGIARE
Venezia Centro Storico
Questa è la parte principale della città — il centro storico composto dai 6 sestieri di Venezia. È l'opzione più comoda, che vi mette a pochi passi (o a una breve corsa di vaporetto) dal luogo del matrimonio e da tutte le attrazioni, ma comporta anche i prezzi più alti, soprattutto in alta stagione. Ci sposeremo nel sestiere di San Marco, ma qualsiasi zona di Venezia è comunque abbastanza comoda.
Mestre
Considerate Mestre come una periferia di Venezia, con costi di alloggio molto più bassi. È a una sola fermata di treno da Venezia, e ci sono autobus diretti verso la città che partono continuamente durante tutto il giorno. Non vi consigliamo di trascorrere molto tempo a Mestre di per sé, ma è una base facile ed economica per le vostre giornate (e serate) a Venezia.
Lido
Il Lido è l'isola balneare dell'area metropolitana di Venezia. Potete alloggiare qui e prendere un traghetto per raggiungere Venezia in occasione degli eventi. Per le serate più tarde, potrebbe essere necessario prendere un taxi acqueo più costoso per tornare al Lido, poiché il vaporetto è meno frequente dopo una certa ora. È meno collegato rispetto a Mestre — la barca è l'unico modo per arrivare e ripartire — ma offre sistemazioni più economiche e un'atmosfera più tranquilla e piacevole rispetto a Mestre.
Passports: Make sure you have a valid passport and that your passport will still be valid for at least 3-6 months past our wedding date — this is standard for entry into Italy and the EU, and it's an easy thing to forget until the last minute. If yours is close to expiring, this is a good time to renew (US passport renewals can take 6-8 weeks).
Visas (UK & US guests): UK and US passport holders don't need a visa for a short trip to Italy. You can stay in the Schengen Area (which includes Italy) for up to 90 days within any 180-day period visa-free. A couple of things worth knowing:
The EU has a new online travel authorization system called ETIAS in the works. As of now it's been delayed and doesn't have a confirmed launch date, but is expected sometime in 2027 so keep an eye out. It is not a visa and won't change the visa-free 90-day rule — you may just need to apply online (a quick, cheap process) before you fly. We'll update you if this becomes relevant before the wedding.
Europe's new Entry/Exit System (EES), a biometric check (fingerprints and a photo) at the border, is already up and running, so add in a little extra time at passport control when you land.
Weather: Venice in May offers mild, pleasant spring weather with average daytime highs around 21°C (70°F) and nighttime lows around 12°C (53°F). Since we'll be celebrating in late May there is the possibility of higher temperatures and humidity.
Book early: As mentioned above, accommodation fills up fast and prices climb the longer you wait — the sooner you lock in flights and a place to stay, the better.
